Lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus)
Location: Lemongrass is grown in Africa, Guatemala, India and Sri Lanka.
Extraction: Steam distilled from the leaves.
Colour and Odour: The essential oil is golden-yellow with a strong, sweet, lemony scent.
Description: A tropical aromatic grass growing to 90cm in height in India.
Background: Long used in India especially for fevers and infectious diseases. Very useful as a room freshener and deodoriser.
Properties: Tonic, stimulant, strong antiseptic, bactericide, deodorant.
Precaution: This oil is best used in lower concentrations as it may cause irritation in sensitive people.
Uses
Respiratory System- Very helpful in preventing respiratory infections, sore throats and laryngitis.
Muscular System-Helps tone muscles and make them more supple.
Emotion- Lemongrass is purifying and stimulates awareness. It refreshes the mind and is helpful for mental fatigue and loss of concentration.
